Who doesn’t like a bathroom that looks squeaky clean and sparkles like it’s been newly fitted. The bathroom requires a regular cleaning, and if not done regularly it gathers all the mold and dirt that needs to be scrubbed off really hard. Excessive scrubbing also leads to scraping or depletion of the topmost layer of the fitting, be it the basin, bathtub or the bathroom tile. One scrubbing and the shine wears off to make the bathroom look used and old.

The first and the foremost step to be followed to keep your bathroom good and clean is to let the windows open and leave the door open every day for some time, so that fresh air can circulate through the bathroom. Let some sunlight seep in. It will control mildew formation and the damp bathroom will feel dry and fresh.

Try to keep the bathroom clean by doing it bit by bit every day. If primary cleaning is carried out every day you won’t require a week end cleaning programme you can do it monthly.

Before you start cleaning make sure you wear a pair of gloves. All the cleaning and scrubbing should be done wearing these. Do not sacrifice your of smooth beautiful soft manicured hands for the sake of a clean bathroom : ))

Vinegar is the probably the best and safest cleaner to be used in the bathroom. Now if your shower head has too much of mineral deposits that even the holes are clogged fill a plastic bag with some undiluted white vinegar and tie it up on the shower such that the shower head is dipped into the vinegar. Leave it in this position for the night and remove and clean in the morning. The shower head will be sparkling clean.

Spray some cleaning liquid on the bath and shower screen and foam a little by scrubbing with a sponge. Wash away the residues with water and clean with a squeegee or use a newspaper to clean the wet screen. A similar method can be used for the mirrors in your bathroom or anywhere in the house.

Cleaning the bath tub can be tedious. Get into the bath tub and clean. Vinegar or baking soda would be great to use. Scrub the bath with a soft scrubber to avoid any scratches. If the tub has any scratches or broken chunks they can be handled easily with the bath tub finishing products. You can just seal up the broken place and spray a light coat of Original Cramer acrylic/enamel spray. Buy the one that matches with the exact shade and shine of your tub. The bath tub will not only look clean but there will be no sign of damage and you can enjoy a renewed bathroom.

The toilet brush that you use for cleaning the toilet should be long handled and slightly angled. It will help you reach every corner and clean efficiently. Put in some borax in the toilet bowl and let it be there over night. Clean in the morning with the toilet brush. After the cleaning wash the bowl with water. You can also use baking soda instead of borax. Use bleach only when the stains are too tough to get rid.

Before you start with your cleaning remove all the clutter from the counter top. The counter top generally collects lot of hair and soap scum. While you clean your counter top also de-clutter it by throwing away items like empty lotion bottles, empty tubes and other useless stuff. Do not let the hair and other substances except the soap scum go into the basin. Mix some baking soda and dish wash liquid in some warm water and use it to clean the counter top. You can also soak a sponge in the liquid and clean the counter top and similarly the basin. Also clean the fittings.

For unclogging the basin and other pipes and drainages pour 1/4^th cup baking soda and then one cup vinegar. Let it be for some time so that it releases the clogs and then pour boiling water over it to wash it down the drain.

Use a soft bristled brush to clean the tile grout. The brush can also be dipped in bleach. Thus bleach will be used only on the grout leaving the tiles alone. Extensive mold formation on the tiles can also be cleaned with the use of vinegar. Pour some vinegar into the corners to get rid of stubborn mold, accumulated dirt and other stain in the corners. You can scrub the bathroom tiles with a soft scrubber.

Keep two sets of curtains and use them alternate every month so that you can wash them every month. Vacuum the bathroom rugs and mats as well. The bathroom accessories such as the tooth brush holders, soap dishes should also be cleaned. A regular cleaner would suffice for these smaller accessories. The soap dish already has some soap scum accumulated it. That soap scum itself can be foamed up and used to clean the soap dish. Spray the bathroom with a freshener so that it smells good.

If your baths or any other fittings start looking old or chip off at places and you cannot afford to replace then use the DIY sealers and polishes available in the market after you have finished cleaning the bathroom. Touching up the fittings will make them look good and make the bathroom look new.

Wear hand gloves and it is preferable to cover your nose while cleaning

• Mix cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide to form a paste, cover the difficult stains with it and keep for some time. Scrub and rinse off.

• Create a solution of salt and turpentine and rub on the yellowed basin or the bathtub. Rinse off with water. You will get rid of the discoloration and the fittings will look better

• To get rid of rust in the bathroom cut a potato dip in either baking soda or salt and rub over the affected part and then rinse off.

• Lemon is a good cleaning agent and can be added in your cleaning liquids for better cleaning and a great lemony smell.
