Have a happy kitchen!!

Updated on July 29, 2011

Most of us love to dish out excellent recipes and most of our loved ones love to gorge on them. All this sharing of love takes shape in our kitchens. Now a kitchen should be a happy place to be. Being in the kitchen should make you feel good, feel at home and you should feel like you are the queen or the king of the kitchen. My dad cooks extremely well but after he is finished cooking there is a herculean task of cleaning up the kitchen that is left to us. A well designed kitchen makes cooking easy and makes cleaning afterward all the more easier.

What all things to consider while you plan a kitchen interior

Kitchen layout:

kitchen layout is the most important factor. It should be designed according to the size and style of the room. An angled layout is always better as it provides a handy reach. But if your kitchen is like a passage go for the parallel counter and storage layout best keep things modular so that you can change from time to time and do not feel bored with the same look and layout. The U shaped kitchen layout is also great.

Kitchen counter top and sink:

The kitchen counter top is another factor that needs the utmost importance. The counter tops can be in a variety of materials like the tiled counters, granite one, there are also laminated counters that have a variety of colours to choose from. Each style has its pros and cons so choose according to your needs and budget. The sink that is used with the counter should also be of good quality. There are various high quality ones like the Reginox kitchen sinks in various designs and materials like the stainless steel, ceramic and many more. A good quality counter top and the sink will last long look great and you will enjoy cooking in the kitchen.

The kitchen taps:

The kitchen taps are one of the best used and the most important factors in the kitchen. These days there are the pull out taps and mixers available for the kitchen best to wash all your veggies and fruits. They provide a better reach and easy cleaning.

Dining bar:

The dining bar adds on to the look as well as the functionality of the kitchen. The dining bar can have the counter extended to make space for compact chairs or stools to be fitted under it. It makes a good place to serve snacks or lunch and dinner while you cook. The bar can also have a folding extension to make a bigger table for more people to dine while you cook. It save the work of taking everything to the dining table and bringing it back and the cleaning that takes place afterwards.

Kitchen Appliances:

Various kitchen appliances like the mixer, grinder, food processor and even the oven or the microwave should be placed so that they are extremely handy and should be kept at appropriate levels. Keep them such that if they work on electricity you don’t always have to move them for using. The mixer grinder can be one the other side but at a safe distance from the sink, so that they can be immediately cleaned after use and placed back without any hassle.

Under the counter Storage:

You can have a great storage space under your kitchen counters. There are trays that are meant for bottles and jars as well as for stacking plates, bowls, cups and mugs pans, vessels and spoons. So an effective storage under the kitchen counter and you don’t need any other storage. Rest of the space can be used decoratively showcasing collectibles and crockery. The under the sink space can be used for storing cleaning liquids, scrubs and the likes.

Other storage cabinets:

Ones you are done with the storage under the kitchen counter its time to decorate and make the kitchen look beautiful and special. If you have beautiful crockery worth a display or lot of collectibles like tea pots and antique pieces you can display them in open shelf’s and better still in shelves with frameless glass doors. Having doors to the cabinets is good for people like me who hate cleaning. An open shelf will mean that you will have to dust and clean it and the things in it regularly. A clear glass door will display the stuff as beautifully and save you the cleaning.

Lighting:

Natural lighting is always good, as it is not only healthy but also saves you the electricity bills reaching the roof. So if possible keep the kitchen facing the garden and better still a kitchen garden. You can have a window that brings in light or a door that leads to the kitchen garden which can be kept open while you are in the kitchen. But definitely you’ll be depending on the lights when the sun goes to sleep. Apart from the one main light source for the kitchen you can have lights above the kitchen counter at various places so that it uses minimum electricity and provides light only where it is needed.

A kitchen garden is probably the best aspect of a kitchen can have. You can easily grow a lot of vegetables and herbs and use them for cooking. It will provide the required oxygen in the kitchen and keep it happy and keep something or the other cooking and brewing in the kitchen. Have a happy kitchen!!
